Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo met with the five candidates vying for the presidency within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) during a breakfast gathering, aiming to foster unity before the party’s upcoming primary elections.
The gathering, held on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at his home in Nima, Accra, assembled important members of the party, such as the NPP Council of Elders and the national leadership.
The meeting sought to enhance unity inside the party ahead of the presidential primaries set for January 31, 2026, and to maintain the NPP’s cohesion as it gets ready for the 2028 national elections.
Former President Akufo-Addo thanked the candidates for pausing their election efforts to visit him.

He observed that their attendance reflected their joint dedication to the party’s overall achievements.
He described each aspirant as a valued member of the NPP, acknowledging their individual contributions to the party and the nation.
He encouraged them to run campaigns centered on their ideas for the future instead of resorting to personal criticisms.
Akufo-Addo also emphasized that his primary focus is to ensure a united and reliable NPP that can secure victory in the 2028 elections, urging all candidates and their supporters to uphold respect and discipline during the process.
Candidates Ken Ohene Agyapong, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong committed to conducting honest and vigorous campaigns. They also vowed to back the individual who becomes the party’s standard-bearer to promote unity following the primary elections.
Also in attendance at the meeting were Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, head of the NPP Council of Elders; Danquah Smith Buttey, interim national chairman; Justin Kodua Frimpong, general secretary; Alexander Afenyo-Markin, minority leader; and Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, former chief of staff.
The ex-president expressed gratitude to the attendees for their collaboration and called on the party’s management to guarantee a fair and open primary procedure that will maintain the cohesion of the NPP.
