President Bola Tinubu has selected Dr Bernard Doro from Plateau State to serve as a Minister in the Federal Republic of Nigeria, submitting his name to the Senate for approval.
Doro’s nomination follows the promotion of Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, the former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, who was chosen as National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress in July.
The President’s Special Advisor for Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, revealed the appointment through a statement released on Tuesday.
Sources within the presidency, aware of the recent changes, informed our reporter that the President, during a private discussion with his key advisors on Monday night, stated his plan to appoint individuals for two open positions in his government, including the role of Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, which became vacant several weeks ago.
Onanuga was born on January 23, 1969, in Kwall, within the Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State. He noted that Doro has over two decades of experience covering clinical work, pharmaceutical management, strategic leadership, and community development in both the United Kingdom and Nigeria.
He holds qualifications in Pharmacy and Law, an MBA with a focus on IT-based business strategies, and a Master’s in Advanced Clinical Practice.
“He is an Independent Prescriber and an Advanced Clinical Practitioner who has worked in NHS frontline roles in urgent care, walk-in clinics, GP surgeries, and hospitals,” the statement said.
In addition to his medical and administrative skills, Doro has been involved in youth guidance and social impact projects within both the Nigerian diaspora and local areas.
If verified, he will become part of President Tinubu’s government and take the oath during a Federal Executive Council session.
