Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell of Grenada has urged increased collaboration between Africa and the Caribbean, highlighting leadership growth and economic alliances as essential factors in achieving mutual advancement.
Mitchell placed the call while visiting the GOTNI Leadership Centre in Abuja on Monday, during which he was hosted by the Center’s Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Linus Okorie.
He characterized the trip as a significant diplomatic effort designed to strengthen ties between Africa and the Caribbean, and to promote transformative leadership within the Global Black Community.
The leader of Grenada praised GOTNI for its efforts in cultivating ethical and competent leaders, highlighting that the institution serves as an example for fostering the leadership required to influence the common future of Africa and the Caribbean.
He stated, “GOTNI’s efforts in cultivating principled, effective leaders are priceless. Africa and the Caribbean have a shared history and a shared destiny.”
The success we achieve will depend on the quality of leaders we develop—and on collaborations such as this that transform common heritage into mutual progress.
In a strategic discussion, Mitchell emphasized the importance of expanding education to incorporate moral and behavioral growth, advancing health and well-being for increased productivity, and fostering intergenerational wealth through people-focused governance.
The Prime Minister also took the opportunity to present Grenada’s investment and tourism prospects to Nigerian business executives.
He pointed out industries like high-end real estate, tourism, and offshore oil and gas, emphasizing that Nigerian skills are still greatly appreciated in these fields.
Mitchell also promoted the creation of direct air connections between Africa and the Caribbean to boost trade, tourism, cultural interaction, and political relations.
Okorie referred to the visit as “a new phase in leadership export from Africa to the global stage,” highlighting that the center’s goal is to develop a new wave of leaders who establish institutions, generate prosperity, and promote human progress.
“By linking Africa’s leadership resources with new Caribbean prospects, we are broadening the potential for the Global Black Community—economically, culturally, and socially,” he stated.
The visit ended with a shared agreement between GOTNI and the Grenadian government to advance long-term leadership development programs throughout Grenada and the broader Caribbean, in line with the region’s growth and transformation goals.
Each party reemphasized their commitment to develop transformative leaders who will promote equitable growth, build institutional confidence, and ensure long-term economic well-being.
