- Oga Obinna had his head shaved completely as a gesture honoring Raila Odinga, in accordance with the Luo tradition of mourning.
- The action was intended not only for the late politician but also for those battling cancer, representing resilience and unity.
- Obinna played Raila’s favorite song, Jamaica Farewell, while shaving, becoming emotional as he recalled Raila.
A digital creator and comedian named Oga Obinna has shown deep respect for the late former prime minister Raila Odinga by shaving his head, following traditional Luo mourning practices.

Raila was buried on Sunday, October 19, at his family’s traditional residence in Bondo, after a state funeral that drew numerous officials from Kenya and other countries.
In a heartfelt video posted on his social media platform, Obinna discussed the importance of the practice, which originates from Luo traditions, where cutting one’s hair during a time of sorrow represents grief and honor for the departed.
Obinna, who has consistently expressed his admiration for Raila, mentioned that he is paying tribute to the late ODM leader in this manner to show his respect and appreciation.
“In the Luo tradition, shaving one’s head was a way to express mourning and grief, but this practice is now rare. For myself and Baba (Raila), I decided to shave my head. This act is dedicated to Baba in honor of the respect and admiration I have for him. Additionally, it is for all cancer patients,” Obinna stated.
While Obinna was seated in the barber’s chair, the footage highlighted the strong emotional bond he felt towards this tribute.
The final time he had shaved his head completely bald, he remembered, was during his primary school years.
The moment became more touching when the barber shaved his head, as he played one of Raila’s favorite songs, originally by Harry Belafonte.
The comedian had difficulty holding back tears while getting shaved and requested the barber to stop momentarily, trying to regain his composure.
His sorrow was clear as he paid tribute to the veteran politician, whose passing had deeply affected him.
After finishing the shave, the barber inquired if Obinna desired a cap to conceal his newly shaved head. Obinna’s reply was brief yet impactful:
No, I’ll just walk this way. It’s my head. Don’t fear your choices. This is a decision I’ve made for Baba and everyone battling cancer. All the cancer warriors. So no restrictions. This is who I am.
Obinna’s homage to Raila generated widespread responses as shown below:
