The Oyo State Anti-Corruption Agency has stated that the state has eliminated corruption within its civil service system as a result of the agency’s efforts.

The Chairman of OYACA, Justice Eni Esan, stated in Ibadan, the capital of the state, on Tuesday, that the primary objective of setting up the anti-corruption body was to clean up the public sector and enforce a strict no-nonsense approach towards corruption within the state.

She stated, “The primary objective of Governor Seyi Makinde when forming the board of the state Anti-Corruption Agency was to purify public and civil servants at every level, ensuring they perform their duties free from institutionalized corruption. Through this, we have conveyed a strong message of zero tolerance for corruption within the state.”

To accomplish this achievement, OYACA has processed more than six hundred public petitions, prosecuted numerous high-ranking civil servants, obtained convictions, and established five branches throughout the state to enable people to file petitions.

The agency has the authority to examine any person within the state, regardless of their position, provided there is a complaint filed by members of the public.

While discussing the agency’s independence, she mentioned that the governor stated on the day of the OYACA board’s inauguration, “if a petition is filed against any individual, regardless of their position within the state, the agency must investigate that person.”

We are under no pressure at all regarding any case, absolutely none, I’m just stating the facts. As you know, we are independent in our investigations and can look into any individual, regardless of their position.

“If a petition is filed against him or her, he even mentioned on the day he appointed the board that if a petition is submitted against anyone in the state, we should look into it,” Esan concluded.
