Kathmandu, October 21 — Prime Minister Sushila Karki stated on Tuesday that her government would take strong action against corruption and injustice, while adhering to legal procedures, for those harmed during the Gen Z protest.
During a four-hour conversation in Baluwatar, Karki stated that the government is completely dedicated to the movement’s objectives but will not undertake actions that go beyond constitutional boundaries.
We will not go beyond the essence of the Gen Z movement,” Karki said to the group. “We will operate through appropriate processes and within the legal framework. We are following the instructions we have received. Elections will take place, and inquiries into corruption are ongoing.
Karki mentioned that government agencies are operating with urgency and that results will soon become apparent. “Each organization is contributing its share. You should keep expressing your concerns and maintain pressure on us,” she stated. “You will soon witness the outcomes. You must have heard what those being investigated are publicly stating.”
Injured demonstrators called on the prime minister to implement more decisive measures against individuals engaged in corruption and oppression, cautioning that they would resume protests if no tangible actions were undertaken. The 18-person team was headed by Rupin Khadka.
“The individuals we demonstrated against remain at large. What is preventing the government from detaining them? Is it due to regulations or the constitution?” Khadka questioned.
Interior Minister Om Prakash Aryal updated the attendees on the status of current investigations into corruption and previous enforcement actions. He mentioned that multiple suspects who had attempted to escape or conceal their illegal assets are now being monitored.
Energy Minister Kulman Ghising, Education Minister Mahabir Pun, and Communication Minister Jagdish Kharel also attended the meeting.
Injured demonstrators voiced worries that certain individuals accused of wrongdoing were still attempting to avoid responsibility and hide assets gained through corrupt practices, calling on the government to stop them from escaping legal consequences.
