Kathmandu, October 20 — On Sunday, US President Donald Trump stated that the ceasefire in Gaza remained in effect despite Israel conducting fatal attacks on the area due to alleged breaches of the truce by Hamas.

Hundreds of strikes Israel conducted against Hamas positions in southern Gaza on Sunday followed its accusation that the militant group had attacked its forces, which it described as a clear breach of the nine-day-old ceasefire.

When asked by reporters if the ceasefire was still active, Trump responded, “Yes, it is.” The U.S. president, who played a role in facilitating the agreement, also indicated that the Hamas leadership was not responsible for any alleged violations, instead pointing to “some rebels inside.”

We aim to ensure that it will be very peaceful with Hamas,” Trump stated. “It will be addressed firmly, yet appropriately.

The civil defense organization in Gaza, functioning under Hamas control, reported that the airstrikes resulted in the deaths of at least 45 individuals throughout the area.

Four medical facilities in Gaza verified to AFP that the casualty count stands at 45, stating they have treated both the deceased and injured.

The Israeli armed forces stated that they are investigating the claims of injuries.

Constraints on media in Gaza and challenges in reaching numerous regions prevent AFP from confirming independently the figures and information shared by the civil defense authority or the Israeli armed forces.

The military stated it had “reinstated the enforcement of the ceasefire” on Sunday but promised to “react strongly to any breach of it.”

Hamas rejected the claims, with one representative alleging that Israel was creating “excuses” to restart the conflict.
