Anthony Albanese‘s meeting with Donald Trumphas received acclaim as a triumph from both political factions, yet one specialist in persuasion argues it was an intricately designed performance where the U.S. President intentionally adopted a submissive posture.

The Australian Prime Ministerand the US President appeared as if old friends were chatting and laughing at theWhite Houseon Tuesday, even though it was the duo’s first face-to-face meeting.

The enthusiastic greeting momentarily turned chilly as Trump targeted Australia’s ambassador to the United States, Kevin Rudd, regarding some of his earlier critical remarks, but the warmth soon came back when he shifted his focus to Albanese.

During the gathering, the two leaders affixed their signatures to thea structure for a critical minerals agreement, which the US might employ to reduce its dependence onChina for tech components. Beijinghas imposed stringent regulations on their exports, which has upset Trump.

Dr. Louise Mahler, a specialist in communication and body language, noted that their handshake during the celebration of the agreement was notable, with Trump placing his hand at the bottom, palm upward, letting Albanese take the dominant role in the interaction.

“This is truly remarkable for Trump. I’ve been studying his handshakes for a while now, and he consistently takes charge of the handshake. He guides people around,” she said to the Daily Mail on Tuesday.

It violated all of Trump’s rules…. but it’s clear the instruction here was for Albanese to appear as the leader.

I believe the challenge posed by China is more significant than we realize, or perhaps they are treating it with greater seriousness, and they have indicated that Albanese needs to appear as a leader, aligned with the United States.

Trump’s greetings during his time in the White House have faced significant criticism, with the author of The Art of the Deal occasionally displaying an air of superiority and at other times intentionally extending his hand lower than his counterpart.

“It truly seems to be becoming evident that you can decipher Donald Trump’s foreign policy through the strange manner in which he greets world leaders with handshakes,” noted a Guardian reporter during his initial presidency.

Dr. Mahler, who has frequently criticized Albanese for his weak nonverbal cues during his leadership, stated that the Prime Minister has changed.

It’s completely strange, first of all that Trump permitted it, and secondly, that Albanese took the chance to shake hands with Trump by bringing his hand from high above and slapping it onto Trump’s hand.

“It came as a surprise to me, but I must give Albanese the credit she deserves,” she said.

Usually, under pressure, he smiles too much, appearing pitiful. His jaw becomes rigid. His tongue feels loose and his eyes move rapidly. (Today there was) none of that. He spoke firmly, he pronounced… He spoke clearly and his sentences were smooth.

She pointed out that Albanese started the handshakes, which she noted is uncommon since Trump typically ‘controls’ the handshake and ‘tests individuals for strength’.

“He allowed Albanese to do it,” she said.

However, there were still certain disadvantages, Dr. Mahler noted, such as Albanese’s line of sight in comparison to that of Trump.

‘Looking at a hand while you shake is so amateur. I feel as though he’s cutting a piece of cake. He’s concentrating, that’s what I see… Trump is looking at Albanese; that’s what you’re supposed to do in a handshake.’

Albanese has also received praise surprisingly from former Prime Minister Tony Abbott, who has laid into the current leader for his approach to national security.

“It was a positive day for Australia,” Abbott stated.Sky News on Tuesday evening.

The meeting proceeded far more successfully than expected. The absence of further tariffs and the clear presidential backing for AUKUS, I believe, represents a solid result.

At the beginning of the meeting, Trump and Albanese finalized the key minerals agreement that had been discussed for four to five months, with Trump stating, “We got it done just in time for the visit.”

“And we collaborate extensively on rare earths, essential minerals, and numerous other areas, and we’ve maintained a very positive relationship,” he stated.

We have been working on it for a considerable period.

Albanese stated that the mineral agreement would elevate the U.S.-Australia relationship to “the next level,” and he expressed hope that the deal could serve as a bargaining tool in future tariff discussions with the United States.

“This is an $8.5 billion project that is prepared for implementation,” the Prime Minister stated.

Albanese previously criticized Trump – but the meeting was filled with friendly exchanges as the Prime Minister referred to both nations as ‘great friends and great allies,’ and praised the U.S. President for his foreign policy efforts.

He mentioned that Trump’s efforts in the Middle East, which resulted in a truce between Israel and Hamas and the release of detained Israeli citizens, constituted an ‘exceptional accomplishment’.

The President informed reporters who were taking photos of his arrival that he looks forward to achieving ‘a great deal’ with Albanese and added that his message to the Australian people is: ‘We love them.’

Trump commended Albanese for performing an ‘excellent job’ and mentioned, ‘I hear you’re quite popular nowadays.’

“It is a great privilege to have you as my friend… It is a great honor to have you in the United States of America,” Trump stated.

Albanese extended an invitation to Trump to visit Australia, and the President stated he would “seriously think about it.”
