The Rwanda Football Federation (Ferwafa), via its refereeing committee, has placed three referees, including international referee Claude “Cucuri” Ishimwe, on suspension due to inappropriate behavior in recent matches of the Rwanda Premier League. The group also consists of Eric Mugabo and Emmanuel Habumugisha, who have faced penalties because of mistakes made during their assignments. Ishimwe and Mugabo were in charge of the game between APR FC and Mukura Victory Sports on Sunday, which concluded with a 1–0 victory for APR. Ishimwe, who was the main referee, received a two-week suspension for not issuing a second yellow card that would have led to a red card for APR defender Clement Niyigena after a foul on Zubair Hakizimana. His assistant, Eric Mugabo, was given a one-month suspension for incorrectly disallowing a goal by Mukura in the 86th minute due to an offside call, which was later found to be incorrect. Meanwhile, referee Emmanuel Habumugisha was suspended for a month after his performance in the match between Rayon Sports and Gasogi United on October 5, 2025. Habumugisha rejected a legitimate goal by Gasogi in the 89th minute, claiming it was offside. In a statement, Ferwafa mentioned that it is revising its 2019 refereeing regulations to ensure they are up-to-date. The federation also emphasized its dedication to improving referee integrity, raising officiating standards, and strictly applying existing rules and regulations.
