FIFA announced on Wednesday that the FIFA Unites: Women’s Series 2025, a four-nation friendly competition aimed at advancing access, inclusion, and opportunities for women in soccer, has been moved from Dubai to Morocco and is now set to start this Sunday.
Initially planned to include Chad, Libya, and the United Arab Emirates, the updated list now features Afghan Women United, a refugee team backed by FIFA, along with Chad, Tunisia, and Libya. The competition was relocated from the UAE after Afghan players were refused entry visas, leading FIFA to move the event to Morocco just three days before the start.
Originally planned for October 23, the games will now begin on October 26, providing athletes, trainers, and event planners with a limited time to travel, adjust, and get ready.
«FIFA wishes to express its gratitude to the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) and is eager to collaborate in organizing a successful event», the organization stated in astatement released Monday.
This version highlights the resurgence of the Afghan team. The Afghanistan women’s team hasn’t participated in an official game since 2018, as the Taliban’s return to power in 2021 essentially halted women’s sports. Although the refugee team isn’t yet recognized as representing Afghanistan officially, FIFA has reaffirmed its ongoing support for Afghan women’s football through its 2025 Action Strategy.
Every match will be streamed in real-time on FIFA’s official online platform.
