The General Service Unit (GSU) will start their title challenge against the Kenya Airports Police Unit (KAPU) when the 2025/26 Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) League kicks off on November 6–9 at the Nyayo gymnasium.
Previous champions Kenya Prisons will compete against Equity Bank, while Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) begin their campaign against Trailblazers. Additional men’s matches on the schedule feature Prisons Rift Valley versus Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), Eldoret Water facing AP Kenya, and Prisons Nairobi challenging National Service Unit (NSU).
GSU won back the national men’s title for the first time since 2022 by defeating KPA 3-0 in last season’s playoff final, ending Kenya Prisons’ two-year reign.
The women’s league will begin a week later at the same location, with champions Kenya Pipeline set to face Kenya Army, while former champions KCB and Kenya Prisons will compete in an exciting opening match.
Geoffrey Omondi’s Pipeline regained the women’s championship in June following an exciting 3-2 win against the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in the final match.
In other women’s matches, KDF will face newcomers A-Plus Volleyball Club, Post Bank will clash with Kenyatta University, and DCI will start their championship campaign against Nairobi Prisons.
KVF Fixtures Secretary John Oronje stated that the upcoming season will feature all games held indoors to comply with FIVB rules, although he acknowledged ongoing difficulties.
“The league is scheduled to begin in November, and our goal is to conduct all matches indoors in accordance with FIVB rules,” stated Oronje.Nevertheless, this could be difficult since Kasarani has been too expensive. If everything proceeds smoothly, we will opt for Nyayo Stadium, although we will share it with basketball.
He mentioned that two teams—CHEMA and Eldoret Water—have been promoted, whereas the Department of Defence (DOD) and Mt. Kenya Base Yetu have been relegated to Division Two.
“According to our rules and regulations, the top two teams in Division Two are promoted to Division One, while the bottom two are relegated,” he mentioned.
Oronje stated that the Division One playoffs will include eight teams, concluding with a best-of-three elimination structure, whereas Division Two will have four teams competing in the playoffs.
“We intend to hold the quarterfinals in Mombasa, with women competing at Aga Khan and men at Makande Gymnasium, followed by the semi-finals and finals back in Nairobi,” he stated.
The KVF schedule will also feature the Club Championship in May and the Nations Cup in August next year, as Kenya aims to host the Zone Five Club Championship in January.
The second leg for the women’s team is set for February 12–15, while the men’s league will restart a week later, paving the way for an exciting local volleyball season.
