South Africa is preparing for one of the most daring health events of the year as the annual Hollard Daredevil Run is set to take place across streets, office complexes, and schools throughout the country on Friday, October 31.

For 16 years, the event has initiated discussions on male cancers, while generating essential funds to promote awareness initiatives and increase access to screenings via the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) and the Prostate Cancer Association of South Africa.

Participants wear purple Speedos and tacks, carrying slogans that convey a strong message about bravery and wellness. Nationally, the famous purple attire is being delivered to registered participants, indicating the growing excitement before the race.

Hollard is dedicated to promoting positive change and raising awareness about prostate and testicular cancers, which is why we have steadily expanded the Daredevil Run each year and established challenging, courageous objectives in partnership with CANSA and the Prostate Cancer Foundation,” said Hazel Chimhandamba, Group Chief Marketing Officer at Hollard. “The purple Speedos featuring messages aimed at increasing awareness serve as a strong representation of what occurs when men show courage and bravery to save a life, often their own.

Last year, the Daredevil Run generated R1 million, involving over 6,000 participants spread across more than 400 locations throughout the country. This year, Hollard hopes to double the amount collected, increasing the effect and possibly saving more men’s lives.

Entries for the 2025 event can be purchased for R180 via Ticketpro up until October 28, which comes with a registration package and a free purple Speedo. Participants in Johannesburg can still sign up on the day at Zoo Lake until 2:30pm, but availability is limited and likely to be quickly exhausted. Runners nationwide are advised to checkthe Hollard Daredevil Run Facebook profilefor information about local races, participating in a group enhances both the enjoyment and significance of the event.

For individuals unable to take part, contributions are appreciated via the Hollard Daredevil BackABuddy platform, aiding in making this year’s initiative achieve its maximum impact.

Now is the moment for men throughout South Africa to take their boldest step, drive in purple, and demonstrate that bravery and dialogue can make a difference.
