Kunlavut Vitidsarn, along with his mixed doubles partners Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Supissara Paewsampran, progressed to the second round of the US$950,000 BWF French Open on Tuesday.

Top-seeded Kunlavut overcame a three-game challenge against Wang Tzu-wei from Taiwan, coming from behind to secure a 14-21, 21-7, 21-15 victory in 55 minutes.

Kunlavut is set to compete against either Kodai Naraoka from Japan or Victor Lai from Canada in the round of 16 at the World Tour Super 750 tournament on Thursday.

The mixed pair Dechapol and Supissara faced a relatively straightforward first match, where they beat Wong Tien Ci and Lim Chiew Sien from Malaysia in two sets, 21-17, 21-17, securing their place in the round of 16.

Dechapol and Supissara are set to face Jafar Hidayatullah and Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu from Indonesia on Thursday.

However, Busanan Ongbamrungphan exited early after being forced to retire due to an injury at 2-11 in the second game against Chinese fifth seed Chen Yufei. Busanan lost the first game 9-21.

Chen will compete against Neslihan Arin from Turkey in the second round.

Another combined pair, Phuwanat Horbanluekit and Benyapa Aimsaard, also left the competition following a defeat by Marvin Seidel and Nguyen Thuc Phuong from Germany with scores of 15-21 and 12-21.

Dechapol was scheduled to compete in his men’s doubles match alongside Kittinupong Kedren later Tuesday.

Ratchanok Intanon is set to compete against Natsuki Nidaira from Japan in her first match on Wednesday.
