Sri Lanka, October 23 — Athletes from Sri Lanka’s esports scene will proudly compete for their country at the 3rd Asian Youth Games 2025, set to be held in Bahrain this October, marking the first time that esports will be included as a medal-awarding discipline.

Sri Lanka will participate in several events, such as Rocket League Girls, eFootball Boys, and Street Fighter Boys. The team includes W.L.A. Sayuni Sadushika, who will take part in Rocket League Girls, and M.A. Haiyan Aqwam, who will compete in both eFootball Boys and Street Fighter Boys. Their inclusion comes after the official selection trials conducted by the Sri Lanka Esports Association earlier this year.

The acknowledgment of Esports as a medal event at the Asian Youth Games highlights its increasing credibility and the prospects it offers to young people. As the official organization overseeing Esports in Sri Lanka, the Sri Lanka Esports Association keeps creating paths for young athletes to participate on a global scale.

“This marks the beginning of fresh possibilities for the upcoming generation of Esports players in Sri Lanka, demonstrating that competitive gaming is more than just a pastime—it’s a stage where they can represent their country, compete globally, and earn acclaim for their skills. It’s a time of honor and potential for our young people,” said Raveen Wijayatilake, President of the Sri Lanka Esports Association.
