South Africa defeated Pakistan by 150 runs using the DLS method in the 22nd match of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Tuesday night. Pakistan will now play their last match of the tournament against Sri Lanka on Friday, October 24. Earlier, after being asked to bat first, South Africa was 6 for 1 at the end of the second over when rain interrupted the game. Following the resumption, the match was shortened to 40 overs per side, with South Africa scoring 312 for 9. Captain Laura Wolvaardt was the highest scorer with 90 off 82 balls, including 10 fours and two sixes. Marizanne Kapp (68*) and Sune Luus (61) also achieved half-centuries. For Pakistan, left-arm spinners Nashra Sundhu and Sadia Iqbal took three wickets each.
In response, on DLS, Pakistan were set a revised target of 306 runs in 40 overs. Muneeba Ali began poorly, as the left-handed batsman returned to the dressing room after scoring five runs off 12 balls. Omaima Sohail (6), Sidra Amin (13), and Aliya Riaz (3) were the next players to be dismissed within nine overs. As rain delays kept interrupting the game, Pakistan were eventually given a new target of 234 runs to win in 20 overs when they had reached 48 for four in 12 overs. Pakistan concluded their 20 overs at 83 for seven. For South Africa, Kapp took three wickets for 20 runs.
