The Zimbabwean Football Association (ZIFA) has terminated the contract of national team coach Michael Nees following a series of unfavorable outcomes in the World Cup qualification process.

The announcement, made on Wednesday, came from ZIFA’s executive committee headed by president Nqobile Magwizi.

In a statement, the association expressed gratitude to the German coach for his “efforts and contributions” to Zimbabwean football, noting that his “dedication to the sport and service to national institutions” was valued.

“ZIFA is still strongly dedicated to enhancing its technical development initiatives and maintaining ongoing advancements across all aspects of the sport according to its reform and reorganization plan,” the statement mentioned.

The authority mentioned that information regarding the transition procedure and temporary coaching plans will be revealed in the next few days.

Nees, who took office in July 2024, managed two Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and six World Cup qualifiers, during which the Warriors achieved four draws and suffered four losses.
