The Jigawa state administration has initiated the tendering procedure for rural electrification initiatives in 11 communities, with a total value exceeding N1.4 billion.
During the bid opening, the State Commissioner of the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy, Engr. Surajo Musa, mentioned that the ministry is committed to maintaining transparency and responsibility in choosing the successful contractors.
As per his statement, the bid opening, carried out by the state’s Rural Electrification Board, is a component of the government’s strategy to deliver essential services such as consistent power, especially in rural areas.
This program seeks to encourage the growth of small businesses and foster economic development.
He further mentioned that the projects involve restoring and fixing transformers and cable lines in various communities that have lacked power for more than ten years due to damage caused by windstorms.
He pledged to contractors that they would receive prompt payment for all verified work, while also promising not to tolerate any violation of contract terms. He cautioned that the government would not hesitate to cancel the contract of any company found to be underperforming.
The Commissioner, represented by the Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency, Engr Sani Zubairu Alhaji, called on the communities receiving benefits to take responsibility for the projects, stay alert, oversee the work to maintain quality, and assist in safeguarding the facilities from damage.
On behalf of the contractors, Engr. Murtala Muhammad Yunusa from SAMMASS Engineering Nigeria Ltd. expressed gratitude to the government for the chance to take part in the bidding process, which he referred to as being carried out in a transparent manner.
He pledged to the government that the winning contractors would provide top-notch work, seeing themselves as collaborators in the growth of Jigawa State, not just businesses focused on making money.
