Coventry City are performing exceptionally well at the summit of theChampionshipand are currently poised to surpass numerous records.

Frank Lampard’s team was heavily favored to secure a top-six position at the beginning of the season, but not many anticipated the Sky Blues to begin so strongly.

We have examined their performance this season and identified five records they have a good chance of surpassing.

Top goals in a season

Fulham set a new benchmark for the highest number of goals scored in a Championship season during the 2021-22 campaign, with Marco Silva’s team netting an impressive 106 goals.

Thanks largely to Aleksandar Mitrovic, who netted 43 goals on his own, Fulham established a new record that has remained intact ever since.

Nevertheless, Coventry have already netted 34 goals in their first 12 games and are currently set to break the record.

If they can keep up their current pace of 2.83 goals per match until the season concludes, they will end up with a total of 130 goals.

Highest points in a season

Although many teams have claimed they would surpass Reading’s 106-point record, it has remained unchanged since 2006.

Coventry is currently scoring an average of 2.33 points per match, which, if sustained, would result in them accumulating 107 points by the end of the season.

In a demanding league like the Championship, it’s natural that their performance may decline at some point, but as of now, they are set to surpass the record.

Most points in 2025

No team in the Championship has accumulated more points than Coventry in 2025, having secured 69 points from 34 games.

The second top-performing Championship team this year is Millwall, having accumulated 60 points during the current calendar year.

Goalkeeper record

Although the majority of attention on Coventry this season has centered around their offensive play, they also have a solid and reliable defense.

Having allowed just nine goals in their first 12 games, they hold the third-best defensive record in the league, following only Stoke and Middlesbrough.

Goalkeeper Carl Rushworth has already etched his name in the club’s history by going 613 minutes without allowing a goal – a feat that sets a new club record.

“His confidence has increased since he arrived here, but I always sensed that when we signed him, he’s a highly skilled goalkeeper, and I’m genuinely happy for him regarding that achievement,” Lampard said to BBC CWR.

He is worthy of it; it’s a remarkable accomplishment.

More than ever in today’s game, you defend from the front, but occasionally you must recognize the individual accomplishment, and it’s incredible to be at the club for such a brief time and achieve that.

Largest goal difference in Championship history

We have only participated in 12 matches this season, and Coventry’s goal difference is already +25.

If they keep scoring at their present pace and sustain their defensive performance, they will finish the season with a +95 goal difference, surpassing the existing record.

As of this writing, Reading currently hold the record for the highest goal difference in Championship history, standing at +67 during the 2005-06 season.
