The coach of Nigeria’s Super Falcons, Justine Madugu, has called on his team to maintain concentration and adherence to rules as they get ready to face the Benin Republic’s Amazons in a crucial 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifier taking place in Abeokuta, Ogun State on Tuesday.

Although they have a 2–0 advantage from the first match in Lomé, which was achieved through goals by Chinwendu Ihezuo and Esther Okoronkwo, Madugu states that the current African champions will not be underestimating their lead.

“We anticipate a challenging game against the Benin team, but our objective is clear — to deliver a solid performance that ensures qualification for the 2026 WAFCON,” Madugu stated in a message released by the Nigeria Football Federation on Monday.

Our main goal is to protect our continental championship and keep progressing toward the 2027 World Cup in Brazil.

The Super Falcons took control in the first match, yet Madugu remains cautious about a Benin team that includes several seasoned players based abroad.

They had approximately 10 professionals from leagues in Germany, Morocco, France, and Equatorial Guinea,” he mentioned. “That level of expertise was evident in their structure and perseverance. In modern women’s football, no team should ever be overlooked.

The game, set for 4 p.m. at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex in Abeokuta, will decide which team advances to next year’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled to be held in Morocco from March 17 to April 3, 2026.
