Real Madrid supporters were not ready to overlook Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal on Sunday’s Clasico due to his controversial comments before the match.

A 18-year-old Barcelona striker claimed the capital club “cheated” and “complained” during a televised interview on Friday ahead of the match at Santiago Bernabeu, where Real Madrid emerged victorious with a 2-1 score.

Yamal began with a courageous move, and the roaring home crowd believed he had given away a penalty after sliding in to challenge Vinicius Jr., but the decision to give a spot kick was reversed following a VAR check.

Yamal faced a wave of whistles and insults each time he possessed the ball, and he got one of the most intense responses of the evening when Vinicius struck a loose ball that hit him.

Seeming to dismiss some of his anxiety, he participated in some initial smooth passes with his Barcelona teammates and tried one of his signature curved shots from the right side of the penalty area.

However, Alvaro Carreras mostly contained him afterward, and he became less influential as the game progressed, with Madrid taking control.

At the conclusion of the game, during a confrontation, Madrid’s captain Dani Carvajal, who also plays alongside Yamal for Spain, was observed informing the young winger that he spoke excessively.

Barcelona’s assistant manager Marcus Sorg acknowledged that the tense environment likely influenced the club’s top player.

“It’s feasible. Maybe to some extent. As he is learning how to handle the crowd, the jeering… It’s a gradual process. It’s accurate that he is typically highly driven, and today proved to be quite challenging for him,” Sorg mentioned.
