A group of hackers known as “Ransomhouse” has released a declaration on the dark web, asserting they are behind a cyberattack targeting the Japanese online stationery seller Askul Corp., according to a cybersecurity firm on Thursday.
A Tokyo-based company, S&J Corp., stated that it has verified the claim of responsibility, noting that Ransomhouse claimed to have stolen a significant amount of data from Askul.
A hacking collective takes data from businesses for blackmail, and their actions have grown more noticeable in recent years, stated S&J President Nobuo Miwa.
This month, Askul suspended operations on its e-commerce platforms after being targeted by a ransomware incident on October 19.
