Non-fossil energy sources made up 256.09 GW (51%).

India’s cumulative electricity generation capacity stood at 500.89 gigawatts by 30 September 2025, with non-fossil fuel sources contributing 256.09 GW (51%), as reported by India’s Ministry of Power.

In the meantime, energy generated from fossil fuels accounts for 244.8GW, roughly 49%. Solar energy is at 127.33 GW, while wind energy stands at 53.12 GW.

In the first half of the year, India introduced 28 GW of non-fossil energy infrastructure and 5.1 GW of fossil fuel-based capacity.

Furthermore, on 29 July, India achieved its highest-ever proportion of renewable energy in electricity production, supplying 51.5% of the nation’s total power requirement of 203 GW.

“This was the first instance where more than half of India’s electricity was generated from renewable sources in one day,” the Ministry stated.
