Inspired by his personal experience of caring for his aging grandparents, Mr. Parama Linpiyawan aimed to tackle the typical difficulties encountered by Thailand’s elderly, especially those who lack access to modern medical or assistive technologies. His empathy and inquisitiveness drove him to create a range of creative, affordable solutions designed to enhance the lives of older adults.
The first one, NoSore, is an affordable mattress topper aimed at preventing bedsores—commonly referred to as pressure ulcers—by using a system that tracks pressure over time and wirelessly notifies a caregiver when the user is in danger. This innovation received the Gold Award at the World Invention Creativity Olympic (WICO) 2025.
His second endeavor, SmartPlast, originated from noticing the significant amounts of plastic waste thrown away by clinics and hospitals without being recycled. By experimenting with non-biohazardous medical plastics, Mr. Parama developed a recyclable toilet chair for the elderly using discarded materials gathered from nearby clinics. The project eventually grew to encompass chairs, tables, and other items made from additional plastic sources like bottle caps. SmartPlast was acknowledged by both the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s Environment Department and the Department of Older Persons (DOP) for its positive environmental and social effects.
The third advancement, FallAware, is a belt-like wearable gadget that identifies when an older individual experiences a fall and promptly notifies caregivers through an online platform. This initiative also garnered acknowledgment from the Department of Older Persons (DOP) for its impact on senior care and security.
As Thailand’s aging population keeps increasing, Mr. Parama aims to encourage others to get involved—through creative initiatives or simple gestures of compassion—to enhance the quality of life for elderly individuals in their neighborhoods.
He attributes his successes to persistence, exploration, and a sincere wish to create change. His advice for aspiring inventors is straightforward: dedicate yourself to your concepts, accept the process of testing and learning, and always remember the influence your imagination can bring to people.
