Hong Bum-sik, the head of LG Uplus, talked about collaborative initiatives with Matt Garman, the leader of Amazon Web Services (AWS), during the ‘2025 APEC CEO Summit’ taking place in Gyeongju.

Senior leaders from LG Uplus and AWS convened at the Gyeongju Arts Center on the 29th of last month to explore cooperation in areas such as AI (artificial intelligence) and cloud computing. The two organizations formed a strategic alliance during ‘MWC, Mobile World Congress, 25’ held in Barcelona, Spain, at the beginning of this year.

At that time, the two companies revealed intentions to collaborate on cloud business initiatives, boost AI development by leveraging AWS’s generative AI platform ‘Amazon Bedrock,’ improve cloud security, and transform customer experience (CX) via IT modernization.

In early July, LG Uplus launched its internally developed small language model (sLLM), ‘ixi-GEN,’ on AWS’s ‘Amazon Bedrock Marketplace,’ speeding up its expansion into the global market. This enables businesses and developers around the world to conveniently create and scale AI services using ixi-GEN through the AWS platform.

LG Uplus intends to deepen its collaboration with AWS after this APEC gathering, intensifying initiatives to boost service competitiveness by integrating AI and cloud technology.
