Bunge La Wananchi, a civil society organization, is establishing additional branches to encourage community involvement, according to the national chairman, Owich Obungu.
Obungu mentioned that through these groups, numerous Kenyans will gain a forum to express their opinions and contribute to matters impacting them, particularly regarding economic growth.
He mentioned that civic involvement would help Kenyans comprehend and take part in building the nation.
The constitution requires that elected officials engage citizens in the development projects they carry out on their behalf. Obungu stated that Kenyan citizens would utilize Bunge to address the social, political, and economic growth of their region.
“The main goal of Bunge La Wananchi is to encourage community involvement and raise awareness among local populations. Public participation plays a vital role in social, political, and economic progress,” Obungu stated.
Speaking at the opening of the Karachuonyo branch in Kendu Bay town on Saturday, the head of the civil society group called on members to examine issues impacting the nation.
He was joined by their national attorney, Oloo Gor. The speaker of Karachuonyo Bunge, Musa Owino, was also in attendance. Obungu encouraged elected officials to adhere to the Kenyan constitution, which requires that their constituents be empowered.
The representatives from Karachuonyo Bunge were encouraged to exercise monitoring duties without favoring any particular position.
“Everyone must be considered when leaders are rolling out development initiatives across the nation. Access to government purchasing opportunities should guarantee that individuals with disabilities, women, and young people are all represented,” he stated.
They called on elected officials, particularly governors from the Nyanza area, to establish industries in order to tackle the lack of job opportunities. Gor mentioned that they utilize Bunge to ensure leaders are held responsible.
He requested the Homa Bay authorities to repair the drainage infrastructure in Kendu Bay town.
“We do not wish for a scenario in which the county government acts solely when traders or residents refuse to pay taxes. The issues with the drainage system need to be resolved as soon as possible to enhance hygiene in the town,” Gor stated.
Owino stated that they will collaborate with leaders who share similar values while adhering to the law.
He mentioned that they have the authority to assign tasks to leaders and ensure they meet the expectations of the voters. “We will address our concerns following the rule of law. It is the people’s parliament, where discussions take place on issues that impact them,” Owino stated.
