Odumase-Krobo (E/R), November 3, GNA – Nene Sakite II, the head of the Manya Krobo traditional region, has urged the government to quickly resolve the deteriorating road conditions within the Krobo area.
He mentioned that the government needs to focus on road repairs and enhance fundamental infrastructure in the region, calling the present state of affairs unacceptable and an obstacle to economic and social progress.
Nene Sakite II, also serving as the President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, issued the call during the 132nd Ngmayem Festival in Odumase-Krobo, highlighting that the poor condition of roads was impacting commerce, emergency response, and everyday activities.
The road has created an extremely difficult situation for us,” he stated. “I call on the Government of Ghana, the Ministry of Roads and Highways, and local councils to focus on repairing these roads. The Traditional Council is prepared to work with the government and contractors to gather local workers when needed.
He mentioned the Somanya–Odumase–Kpong corridor, Odumase–Asesewa Road, and Akuse Road as essential pathways that have worsened over the years, stating their state is harmful to progress.
In addition to roads, Nene Sakite II raised worries about the absence of water and electricity in various communities, especially in the Upper Manya and Middle Belt regions.
“Many locals continue to be without these fundamental services, which impedes economic development and the welfare of households,” he said.
Regarding health and education, the Paramount Chief highlighted the state of the Atua Government Hospital and other institutions as concerning.
“Our schools are not equipped with sufficient facilities, and the Atua Government Hospital is in a terrible condition. The government needs to take immediate action to address this issue,” he stressed.
Focusing on the younger generation, Nene Sakite II stated that youth play a crucial role in the region’s development and called for support in acquiring hands-on skill training.
Your youth are full of vitality and creativity, yet they encounter obstacles that need to be addressed,” he stated. “We should encourage education in farming, engineering, technological advancement, and the arts. Our tomorrow relies on their willingness to take charge.
He also warned against overlooking Krobo culture and language, emphasizing that the continuation of Krobo heritage relied on united action.
“Let us not abandon our identity. Our language and traditions need to be maintained,” he urged.
In response to these issues, Eastern Regional Minister Mrs. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey praised Nene Sakite II for his leadership and reiterated the government’s dedication to progress in the region.
She stated that the Somanya–Kpong road had been granted under the government’s ‘Big Push’ initiative and that construction would restart soon.
“The government is still dedicated to working with the Manya Krobo Traditional Council to make sure that development initiatives positively impact the community,” she stated.
Mrs. Awatey mentioned that additional roads in the town would be repaired using the District Common Fund and assistance from Members of Parliament, while local assemblies would handle smaller road maintenance tasks.
“Our goal is to transform the Manya Krobo region into a benchmark for community-driven development with robust government partnership,” she stated.
The Ngmayem Festival, held under the theme: “Honoring Our Heritage, Strengthening Our Communities with a Goal,” concluded with a renewed appeal for unity and collaboration to develop Kroboland into a vibrant and successful society.
