The Moroccan Ministry of the Interior stated that it has cut down illegal cannabis farming areas by 85 percent, decreasing from approximately 134,000 hectares in 2003 to 20,627 hectares in 2025, as part of initiatives to limit supply and enforce Law No. 13.21 regarding the legal application of cannabis.

The 2025 performance report of the ministry, referenced by, stated officials are committed to ensuring that legally manufactured cannabis does not enter illegal markets and to decreasing demand via anti-smuggling efforts.

The report mentioned that security agencies confiscated over 344 tons of hashish, 112 tons of raw cannabis, 2.5 tons of cocaine, 17 kilograms of heroin, and more than 1.5 million psychotropic tablets in 2024. From January to August 2025, the seizures increased to 385 tons of hashish, 61 tons of cannabis, 788 kilograms of cocaine, and 1.26 million pills.

Officials dismantled multiple human trafficking operations and enhanced border and coastal monitoring, employing cutting-edge detection equipment. The ministry expressed growing worry about the use of psychoactive medications, especially among young people, and stated that prevention initiatives now view drug users as individuals in need of support and recovery.
