To stop the drop in the number of subscribers, pay television provider MultiChoice Kenya has lowered the cost of its decoders by as much as KSh 349, which includes installation accessories.
The decrease in expenses followed the company increasing its package prices for the seventh time in under three years to avoid income reductions caused by a decline in customers.
What are the updated prices for DStv and GOtv decoders?
The company stated that its high-definition DStv Zapper decoders will now be priced at KSh 850 rather than KSh 1,199.
On the other hand, GOtv decoders are currently available for KSh 799, down from KSh 999.
The GOtv antenna is now priced at KSh 700, a decrease from KSh 1,000, whereas the DStv dish kit is available for KSh 1,650, previously KSh 2,000.
GOtv focuses on individuals who cannot afford DStv subscriptions.
What caused Multichoice to reduce the prices of DStv and GOtv decoders?
As stated by Nzola Miranda, the managing director of MultiChoice Kenya, the promotions are available until December 31, 2025.
“These offers represent our method of expressing gratitude to our clients for their backing and faithfulness, while also extending an invitation to potential new clients to join our growing community,” Miranda stated.
The action shows how the company has adapted to shifts in the market and competitive pricing within Kenya’s television industry.
Reducing expenses occurred during a significant loss of subscribers because of costly plans and the rise of unauthorized online streaming services.
It remains uncertain whether the price reduction would halt the drop in the number of subscribers.
For the period ending in June 2025, nearly 80% of DStv’s active subscribers left, resulting in 188,824 active users, a decrease from 1.19 million in the prior year.
