On the 5th, the US Forces Korea (USFK) stated, “All Patriot batteries and personnel stationed in the Middle East have returned by the end of last month.” The USFK Patriot batteries and forces, which had been rotated to the Middle East in March, have made their way back to the Korean Peninsula through Osan Air Base.
The Eighth Army said, “We are pleased to have the soldiers from the 2nd Battalion, 1st Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 35th Artillery Brigade (2-1 ADA BN) back,” and mentioned, “They had departed the Korean Peninsula on a urgent directive to carry out essential air and missile defense tasks for significant U.S. and allied force assets within the U.S. Central Command’s region of responsibility.” It is reported that approximately 500 personnel are returning.
These forces were sent in June to missions designed to stop Iranian missile strikes directed at a U.S. Air Force base in Qatar. The assaults were a part of Iran’s act of retaliation after the U.S. B-2 bomber attack on Iranian nuclear sites.
The Eighth Army stated, “The skills developed via ongoing live-fire training, readiness checks, and combined exercises in Korea were crucial to the achievement of overseas combat missions.”
In August, USFK Commander Xavier Brunson mentioned, “The Patriot systems will come back to the Korean Peninsula with the most recent advanced U.S. Army technology.” It is reported that the Patriots that have returned this time have been equipped with enhanced technology.
