Takoradi, November 07, GNA – Mr. Francis Aforve, the Executive Director of the African Foundation for Climate Change and Sustainable Development (AFCCSD) and founder of Climate Smart Solutions Limited, has effectively expanded a snail farming initiative from 1,000 to over 20,000 snails within five months.

The initiative, carried out by Climate Smart Solutions Limited, started in November 2024 with the building of a single greenhouse for an individual client.

He stated that the farm was stocked with 1,000 point-of-lay achatina snails in May 2025. The first greenhouse provided ideal conditions for quick breeding, and by October 2025, the snail population had increased to over 20,000, leading the client to order three more greenhouses to handle the expanding stock.

“This serves as a real-world illustration of how climate-resilient farming practices can enhance people’s lives,” Mr. Aforve mentioned.

“We established a controlled setting that replicates natural circumstances, while safeguarding the snails from predators, extreme weather, and illness, resulting in rapid growth with few setbacks,” the environmental activist mentioned.

He mentioned that the greenhouses had systems for controlling humidity and temperature, eco-friendly feeding processes, and biosecurity protocols that improved breeding effectiveness.

The system not only promoted significant efficiency but also supported Ghana’s objectives related to food security, job creation for young people, and coping with climate change.

Snail farming, frequently neglected within conventional agricultural industries, is becoming more popular as a productive and environmentally friendly business. As there’s growing interest in organic protein and opportunities for export.

The approach to snail farming can be adopted throughout Ghana and West Africa.

Mr. Aforve stated, “As a climate activist and business owner, I view this as a model for sustainable growth; we’re not merely raising snails—we’re creating a strong agricultural future.”

He highlighted the greenhouse configuration, breeding methods, and financial opportunities associated with snail farming, explaining why young people in Ghana should be motivated to enter this industry.
