, November 8 — Dhaka was placed third on the list of cities globally experiencing the most severe air pollution, with an AQI reading of 187 at 9:03 am on Saturday.
The air in Dhaka was categorized as ‘unhealthy’ based on the city ranking for air quality and pollution.
Delhi in India, Lahore in Pakistan, and Kuwait City in Kuwait ranked first, second, and fourth respectively, with AQI values of 673, 336, and 183.
An AQI ranging from 151 to 200 is classified as ‘unhealthy,’ whereas 201 to 300 is labeled ‘very unhealthy,’ and 301 to 400 is deemed ‘hazardous,’ presenting significant health dangers to the population.
The government is concentrating on minimizing dust to manage air pollution in Dhaka, according to Rizwana.
The Air Quality Index (AQI) is a tool used to communicate the daily air quality, letting individuals know how clean or contaminated the air in a particular city is, as well as the potential health risks that may be relevant to them.
The air quality index in Bangladesh considers five contaminants: particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5), nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, and ozone.
Dhaka has been facing challenges with air pollution for a long time. The air quality typically becomes poor during the winter season and gets better when the monsoon arrives.
