In September, the budget airline Ryanair stated that it will exclusively use digital boarding passes from mid-November onward.
The airline will ask travelers to complete online check-in and obtain their boarding pass via the Ryanair app.
Physical paper boarding passes will no longer be valid.
The action has sparked worries regarding senior travelers who might not have or feel at ease with a mobile phone.
Travelers are also wondering what actions to take if their phone loses power, gets stolen, or they lose access to the internet.
Here’s how the updated policy will function and the reasons why physical boarding passes won’t be entirely done away with in reality.
Ryanair will exclusively accept electronic boarding passes starting from November.
Starting on Wednesday, 12 November,RyanairTravelers will need to have their boarding pass in digital form on their MyRyanair app.
The change was initially planned for 3 November but has been delayed until after the busy travel season during the UK schools’ half-term holiday.
The airline states that it has taken this action due to nearly 80 percent of itspassengersAlready using digital boarding passes. It notes that the shift follows other major ticket industries such as festivals, concerts, and sports events, which have effectively transitioned to digital-only tickets.
“Ryanair“Ryanair’s shift to 100% digital boarding passes will provide customers with a quicker, more efficient, and eco-friendly travel experience,” said Dara Brady, Ryanair’s Chief Marketing Officer.
Users can also request food and beverages for enhanced service through the app, receive instant updates regarding check-in, terminal information, and flight delays, and store travel documents in a single location.
What if I am unable to access my electronic boarding pass on my mobile device?
There are multiple situations where a traveler might not be able to create or view their electronic boarding pass on theRyanairapplication, including not having a smartphone or experiencing a dead battery.
In this situation, Ryanair has stated that passengers have the option to obtain a physical boarding pass at the check-in counters at the airport.
This will be provided at no cost, provided thepassengerhas already completed the online check-in.
This applies to flights departing from Morocco as well, where the government mandates that travelers possess a physical boarding pass. Once more, provided you have completed online check-in, your boarding pass will be available at no cost at the check-in counters.
