Outlaws have targeted the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) located in Oke Isegun, Eruku, within the Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, resulting in the pastor being shot and numerous congregants being taken hostage.

The incident, which took place on Tuesday night, caused unrest in the community that borders Kogi State.

In a video captured by our reporter, the congregation was present for a continuous service when gunshots echoed through the air.

Several of the worshippers sought shelter behind the chairs in the church, but the attackers, who had shot at them from outside, eventually managed to get inside.

One of them was observed transporting the bags of worshippers who had escaped, while others entered the church through the primary entrance.

At least two of the shooters concealed their identities with masks, while a third was observed carrying a flashlight.

The event, as reported, took place during a program being held in preparation for the church’s evening vigil.

A local individual, who introduced himself as Mr. Ayo, shared with Daily Trust that the assailants entered the church and began shooting at the attendees.

He mentioned that the bandits fired randomly, resulting in the death of the pastor and another individual, while several others were taken captive.

A different resident, who preferred not to be identified, mentioned that the attackers arrived just after 6 p.m., creating significant fear among the local population.

He mentioned that local vigilante group members quickly engaged the aggressors in an attempt to stop additional injuries.

He mentioned that the community has been subjected to attacks recently.

Police Commissioner Adekimi Ojo verified the incident during a phone conversation with Daily Trust on Tuesday evening.

He mentioned that the community was targeted, but security forces managed to drive off the attackers.

“Yes, the community is under attack. I am currently in contact with my DPO, and we found out that it was repelled right away, but one person was killed. That’s all I can say for now,” he added.
