The groups stated that ongoing violence, along with what they called a sluggish pace in achieving justice within their country, required outside involvement.

A group of Christian groups has called on the United Nations and the International Criminal Court (ICC) to look into incidents and murders that are said to be directed against Christian populations in various regions of Nigeria.

The groups stated that ongoing violence, along with what they characterized as sluggish advancement in obtaining justice within their country, required outside involvement.

The request was disclosed during a media conference led by Bosun Emmanuel, a clergyman who represented the Christian Social Movement of Nigeria and the broader alliance.

The press conference is organized by the Christian Social Movement of Nigeria,” he stated. “We are requesting neutral international investigators to examine the situation and establish the facts.

The alliance comprises the Christian Social Movement of Nigeria, the National Christian Elders Forum, the Stefanos Foundation, the Apostolic Round Table, and the Nigerian Christian Graduate Fellowship, along with other groups. Spokespersons noted that communities impacted by the attacks remain in fear.

Mr. Emmanuel stated that only an impartial, globally monitored investigation could clarify the events and offer a reliable foundation for justice.

We ask the United Nations Security Council and the International Criminal Court to dispatch a team to confirm the events that have taken place,” he stated. “Only an impartial inquiry can eliminate uncertainties, establish the truth, and create a path towards justice.

He also referenced international agreements that detail the responsibilities of nations and the worldwide community in preventing and addressing serious harm to civilians.

“Global agreements set out specific criteria for evaluating major breaches. That is why we think an independent investigation is required at this point,” he added.

The alliance thanked for what it called increasing global focus on Nigeria’s instability, including official statements of worry regarding the human impact of ongoing violence.

“We appreciate the voices from across the globe that keep drawing attention to the struggles of impacted communities. Global solidarity offers numerous families the hope that justice can be achieved,” said Pastor Emmanuel.

He mentioned that various understandings of the violence by local parties highlight the importance of impartial investigation.

“Whenever there are contradictory assertions, the most reliable approach is to grant suitable international organizations the authority to conduct investigations. Nigerians are entitled to transparency supported by confirmed evidence,” he stated.

The meeting also addressed wider issues related to national unity, inclusion, and the duty of governmental bodies to safeguard the well-being of every citizen.

“Each government is responsible for safeguarding every citizen. When neighborhoods experience a sense of insecurity, it’s understandable for them to look for legal methods to ensure safety and seek justice,” he stated.

Mr. Emmanuel emphasized that the coalition’s efforts are focused on encouraging openness, rather than escalating conflicts.

“We are dedicated to peaceful promotion. We believe that an unbiased inquiry and positive interaction can aid in bringing back security and trust within the impacted neighborhoods,” he stated.

The alliance stated it will keep collaborating with regional and global partners until thorough inquiries are carried out and long-term security strategies are put in place.
