Wayne Rooney has suggested to Liverpool’s manager Arne Slot that Mohamed Salah might need to be benched in order to boost the team’s performance following their 3–0 defeat by Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

The loss has caused the Premier League title holders to drop to 11th position, 11 points behind Arsenal at the top.

Rooney mentioned that Salah’s limited defensive contribution might impact the entire team. During an appearance on The Wayne Rooney Show, he stated that each player needs to put in strong effort for the team, particularly when performance is lacking.

He proposed that Salah might rejoin the starting lineup when the team starts winning again.

Rooney also expressed disapproval towards certain senior players at Liverpool, stating that their play has fallen short of expectations.

He mentioned that new players who are not getting playing time might become disheartened if they observe top athletes not putting in effort on defense yet still being selected for every game.

As per Rooney, Slot must take a “major decision” to structure the team, keep it tight, and make it hard to defeat.

He is convinced this approach will motivate each player to provide greater defensive support. When performance enhances, Salah might be reintegrated into the squad, with the expectation that he puts in more effort away from the ball.
