A clearance mission in the Mandara Mountains, Borno State, has resulted in the rescue of 12 individuals kidnapped by Boko Haram, comprising seven women and five children, as part of Operation HADIN KAI.

A statement from the Nigerian Army’s X account on Tuesday revealed that the victims were taken on November 14 while moving along the Gwoza–Limankara Road.

They were released on Sunday following a joint operation conducted under Operation Desert Sanity IV and Operation Diligent Search.

As per military reports, the operation was commanded by the 26th Task Force Brigade, aided by Hybrid Forces, hunters, and vigilantes.

The soldiers carried out an early morning movement across the mountain slopes towards Uvaha, pushing the extremists to escape and leave their hostages behind.

The individuals who fled into nearby shrubs during the attack were located approximately 8:45 a.m. by soldiers carrying out additional sweeps in the region.

Among those rescued are Fadi Musa, Jummai Manga, Hamsatu Musa, Jummai Ali, Inna Amadu, Falmata Musa, Hadiza Hamman, and five children. Most of them were tired after traveling great distances and exhibited symptoms of blisters, wounds, and physical harm.

“They were transported to the brigade field ambulance for medical care and food prior to being given to a representative from the Gwoza Local Government Area Chairman’s office to be reunited with their families,” the post stated.

The top military officials commended the soldiers for their rapid response and acknowledged the security partners and community sources for supplying crucial information in a timely manner.

Military forces are carrying out ongoing operations in southern Borno to locate ISWAP remnants and stop additional assaults.
