Renowned Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has increased his remarks regarding Nigeria’s security challenges, sharing a passionate prayer on social media on Thursday that requests heavenly punishment for those who benefit from the country’s violence.

In a Facebook update on Thursday titled “My Prayer Today,” Sheikh Gumi implored God to reveal and penalize all people and organizations, whether foreign or local, who started, supported, or gained from the “insecurity and bloodshed in Nigeria.”

He stated, “O Allah! Anyone who started or is responsible for this insecurity and bloodshed in Nigeria, whether foreign or local, or has any gain, monetary or otherwise, or is pleased with people being killed, or intentionally did nothing to prevent it, may by Your divine power be revealed and Your wrath descend upon them, and they may be punished immediately without harming the innocent. Amin. Say Amin!”

In response to Gumi’s post, Sani Badamasi stated, “Let me share something with you, sir, with all due respect, letting the bandits know they were deceived is a form of encouragement, showing empathy towards them is also part of it, not just providing them with arms or funds. Some words can be more harmful than weapons.”

Gumi replied, “Simply say Amin.”

Another user, Endless Joe, stated, “Yes, I agree with your prayers; anyone who in any way has spoken or is speaking in support of Nigeria’s enemies, also known as ‘Bandits,’ will not live to see the end of this year.”

Gumi responded, “Amin to all of Nigeria’s enemies, including the bandits. Okay. Say Ameen to my prayer as well!”

PUNCH reportedIn November, Gumi, who has long presented himself as a mediator between the government and rebel groups, criticized those demanding his arrest due to his ongoing remarks about banditry and national security.

Several of his detractors are said to have claimed he protected outlaws and extremists by urging the administration to engage in talks rather than employing overwhelming military action.

In a later interviewAt Channels Television, Gumi stated that certain armed factions are willing to abandon their weapons, suggesting that the government should explore a non-kinetic strategy rather than depending exclusively on military measures.
