The military command stated on Thursday that forces stationed throughout the nation freed 318 individuals who had been abducted and detained 74 suspects linked to terrorism, oil theft, and other unlawful acts during November.

The Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj Gen Michael Onoja, who disclosed the statistics in Abuja during a military operations briefing, mentioned that 69 militants and their relatives also laid down arms to forces in the North-East during the same time frame.

“Consequently, during the month of November, a number of terrorists, bandits, extremists, and other criminal groups were apprehended, many were eliminated, and more than 69 of them along with their family members surrendered, while 318 abducted individuals were also freed,” Onoja stated.

He mentioned that military personnel stopped oil theft worth more than N217m and shut down several unauthorized refining locations within their zones of operation.

Soldiers increased their efforts against the theft of oil, arresting 25 individuals, shutting down 16 unauthorized refining locations, and retrieving stolen petroleum products worth N217,664,618.

“The recovered materials consisted of 201,700 liters of crude oil and 88,177 liters of Automotive Gas Oil. Additionally, 16 unauthorized refining locations were shut down,” he stated.

The military command praised the soldiers for their work and encouraged them to keep up the progress.

Onoja further urged the public to keep supplying reliable details to law enforcement agencies.

“We remain committed to seeking the support of all Nigerians in this matter. We also urge assistance for the veterans by endorsing the Armed Forces Remembrance Day emblem introduced by the President on December 2, 2025, at the Presidential Villa,” he stated.

Onoja confirmed that the military’s top leadership was improving their reactions to new security challenges and would keep working to bring peace to the regions impacted.

He mentioned that the military was implementing every possible action to secure the release of students who had been recently taken, emphasizing that forces were striving to ensure their safe return to their families.

“The AFN also wants to let all Nigerians know that we are implementing all required measures, systems, and activities that can be done by humans to ensure that the students who were recently taken are rescued and returned to their families safely,” he stated.

The PUNCH states that the rescue of abducted individuals occurs as security forces face increased scrutiny after new cases of large-scale kidnappings, which keep threatening the country’s safety.
