The communities in the Nuba Mountains have declared a widespread mobilization and alert to address the attacks carried out by the Janjaweed militia and their associate Abdel Aziz al-Hilu against unarmed residents. Alleged misconduct involves forced relocation to enable foreign fighters to take over South Kordofan, limitations on people’s movement, unlawful detentions under harsh conditions, and the sexual assault and trafficking of women.
The statement was made during an awareness session hosted by the Network of National Organizations operating in the Nuba Mountains (Nuba Net), the High Committee for Civil Support, and the Nuba Mountains Lawyers Group. Al-Tayeb Saad Al-Din, Acting Minister and Director-General of the Ministry of Culture and Information, attended the meeting on behalf of the Wali (Governor) of Khartoum. Also present were Seif Al-Din Mukhtar, Executive Director of Omdurman Locality, and retired Major General Ishag Al-Zubair, Chairman of the Mobilization and People’s Resistance Committee.
Speakers, including Jabr Al-Dar Al-Tum, leader of Nuba Net, Mak Abdullah Gaddom from the Nuba People’s Entity, and lawyers Adil Daldoum Al-Khatim Ashagar and Saeed Sakin Al-Feel, highlighted the critical humanitarian crisis. They announced a relief convoy delivering food to assist civilians trapped in the conflict, called for widespread public involvement in opposing externally backed aggression, and stressed the importance of recording militia violations for reporting to international bodies and courts. They characterized the abuses as organized efforts fueled by the desire for wealth and authority.
The head of the Omdurman Locality pointed out the historical role of South Kordofan communities in liberation movements and called for unity in protecting the region. Speaking on behalf of the Wali, Al-Tayib Saad Al-Din stated that the matter of South Kordofan is a national issue and urged the High Committee to gather nationwide support for the aid convoy. He reiterated the strong sense of solidarity among Sudanese states and emphasized using legal methods to reveal the real motives of those who collaborate.
