Thailand will initiate “all essential military actions” following Cambodia’s recent attacks that started on Sunday, stated Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul after a high-level security meeting on Monday.
Mr. Anutin gave the assurance in front of the military leaders and the defense minister on Monday afternoon, following a session of the National Security Council at Government House.
He mentioned that Thailand needed to assert its right to self-defense following attacks by Cambodia on Sunday, which carried on into Monday.
The prime minister stated that the government will carry out military actions in response to real situations, as well as other military operations when needed.
He mentioned that the government was assured the Thai military ‘can carefully carry out operations following the rules of engagement and humanitarian principles in their efforts to safeguard people and ensure peace and order along the border’.
The prime minister stated that his administration is fully committed to safeguarding Thai sovereignty and territory in accordance with international laws and the right to self-defense.
“The government assures the public that safeguarding the country and ensuring the safety of its citizens is the top priority for both the government and the Thai military,” Mr. Anutin stated.
The prime minister stated that violence was never Thailand’s chosen method, and Thailand did not start any violence or carry out an invasion.
Nevertheless, ‘Thailand will not accept any violation of its sovereignty and will act in a reasonable and cautious manner, upholding the values of peace, security, and humanity’.
“The government is prepared to implement all required actions to ensure the country’s security, independence, and territorial unity, as well as provide the best possible care for its citizens,” Mr. Anutin stated.
