At least one individual lost their life and over 15 people were injured in Russian attacks throughout Ukraine during the night on Monday, while President Volodymyr Zelenskyy declared a week of top-tier diplomatic discussions seeking a path to a “dignified peace” in the nearly four-year conflict.

A person died in the city of Dnipro when different areas of the Dnipropetrovsk region came under drone and artillery attacks during the early hours of Monday. Local authorities stated that five more individuals were hurt, noting that their health status is stable.

Several explosions occurred in the central part of Ukraine, with high-rise buildings, residential houses, cars, and government structures suffering harm due to the attacks.

Emergency crews and local police forces were sent to the affected regions to assess the destruction and assist the injured and those impacted. They noted damage to essential infrastructure, such as power lines and water supply pipes serving homes.

At least seven individuals sustained injuries in the northern part of Sumy, as Russian forces started attacking the area late Sunday and continued into Monday morning, reported the regional military administration.

Multiple levels of a nine-floor apartment complex were harmed during the attack.

Several residents were stuck inside the damaged apartment complex and were taken out by emergency personnel, as reported by the State Emergency Service. Rescue efforts have also been briefly halted due to concerns from local authorities about the possibility of further attacks throughout the city.

The nearby Chernihiv area also faced intense Russian artillery fire during the night, resulting in at least three injured individuals.

A Russian drone detonated in a residential part of the city, close to an apartment complex. The intense explosion broke windows and doors, damaged apartments, and affected civilian cars parked in the vicinity. One individual who was hurt was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries.

A gas pipeline adjacent to the building also ignited, prompting significant efforts by fire departments to control the fire. A nursery, various convenience stores, shops, and nearby facilities also suffered damage during the attacks.

The strikes occur amid increased diplomatic initiatives aimed at concluding Russia’s conflict in Ukraine, which has now entered its fourth year. Zelenskyy stated on Sunday that this week will involve a series of high-level discussions with European legislators to examine methods for ending Russia’s large-scale invasion.

“We are beginning a new diplomatic week at this moment – there will be discussions with European leaders. Primarily, security matters, assistance for our resilience, and support packages for our defense,” Zelenskyy said in a video shared on X.

“Primarily, air defense and sustained financial support for Ukraine. Naturally, we will address a joint vision and unified positions during the discussions,” he added.

It involves a tense meeting in Washington, following discussions between Zelenskyy’s government and U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff, along with the president’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, regarding Trump’s proposed peace initiative for Ukraine.

“Yesterday, we had a conversation with Steven Witkoff and Jared Kushner – thank you for your willingness to collaborate around the clock,” Zelenskyy stated.

Zelenskyy mentioned that Washington is informed of Kyiv’s stance, adding that productive discussions will continue over the coming days and weeks, with the aim of reaching a deal that can lead to long-term stable peace.

“Ukraine is entitled to a respectful peace, and the possibility of achieving peace rests completely with Russia – on our combined efforts to exert pressure on Russia and on the effective negotiation stances of the United States, Europe, and all our other allies,” Zelenskyy stated.

Russia should be made responsible for its actions – for the daily attacks, the ongoing fear inflicted on our population, and the war itself.
