Yoon Seok-hwa, 69, known for her roles in “Agnes of God” and “The Last Empress,” is in a severe medical condition. According to friends of the actor, her children, who live in the UK, have come back to the country to be with their mother at the hospital.

She fell ill in October 2022 during a business trip to the UK following her performance in the play “Hamlet,” which concluded in August of that year. She was diagnosed with a brain tumor and had three operations in Seoul. Subsequently, she chose to pursue natural therapy rather than conventional cancer treatment, stating, “It’s important to live as myself for even one day,” but she has not regained her health after more than three years of treatment.

On the evening of the 18th, several theater-related groups sent text messages and issued press statements saying, “Actor Yoon Seok-hwa passed away at 9 p.m. on the 18th,” noting that her friends had gone to the hospital to offer their final respects and her family was already setting up a funeral hall. Some news organizations also covered this report.

In reply, veteran actor A, a good friend of Yoon throughout her life, told this newspaper early on the 19th, “She is still clinging to life.” Professor B, one of the people who visited Yoon’s hospital room on the night of the 18th, stated, “We had already said our last goodbyes, but the hospital told us that some of her vital signs have improved, so we need to wait and see. Even though she is currently unconscious, it’s most important for us to let her pass away peacefully as she wished. We are still waiting.” Close associate C, who has been close to Yoon since her time as the publisher of the monthly performing arts magazine “Auditorium”, also shared with this newspaper at 6 a.m., “She is still managing well.”
