as Head of Staff meets Latif Abubakar

As Ghana seeks out new methods for economic expansion and international recognition, the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has initiated talks with playwright and cultural business leader Latif Abubakar about the potential of theatre as a versatile cultural resource.

The discussion focused on The Second Coming of Nkrumah – The Musical, a key production that Abubakar refers to as a carefully planned cultural intellectual property intended for global tours, licensing, and sustained value generation.

The play presents a fictional account of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s symbolic return, employing theater to examine modern African issues including leadership responsibility, economic self-reliance, industrial growth, and Pan-African unity in the context of a globalized world.

Abubakar mentioned that the project is being designed with a commercial structure akin to well-known Broadway and West End productions, including live shows, tour schedules, merchandise, and online streaming. He highlighted that Africa’s creative sector is expected to surpass USD 30 billion by 2030, positioning culture as a significant factor in GDP expansion, job creation, and foreign currency generation.

Hon. Julius Debrah recognized the significance of public-private partnerships in developing internationally competitive Ghanaian brands and emphasized the contribution of cultural programs through The Black Star Experience in drawing diaspora tourism, investment, and global recognition.

As part of the collaboration, Abubakar issued an official invitation to the Chief of Staff and representatives from Jubilee House to join the global premiere of the project, highlighting the importance of policymakers witnessing directly the magnitude and business opportunities within Ghanaian creative industries.

The Musical: The Second Coming of Nkrumah will be the main attraction at the 2025 African Festival, a three-day celebration of culture and tourism taking place from December 28 to 30, 2025, at the Accra International Conference Centre.

The play is scheduled to take place on 29 December 2025, featuring two shows at 4:00 pm and 8:00 pm, and is anticipated to draw significant attention during Ghana’s busiest December travel period. The performance will occur on Sunday, 29 December 2025, with two showtimes at 4:00 pm and 8:00 pm, acting as the highlight of the event.

The African Festival will also include “Don Quixote Africa” on 28 December, and a major concert on 30 December featuring Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Rocky Dawuni, Wiyaala, Bessa Simons, Amadzeba Nat Brew, and The Adaha Band, along with cultural displays, art markets, food stalls, and historical exhibits.
