Comedian and event organizer, Olanrewaju Gregory, known as Larry J, believes that Artificial Intelligence is unable to take the place of humor. Discussing the increasing impact of artificial intelligence in creative fields, he stated, “AI may attempt, but it cannot replicate human timing, tone, and emotional shifts. Comedy is fundamentally human.”

Larry J unveiled the fourth edition of his annual “family-friendly” comedy event, set to take place on December 25, 2025, at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos.

The Christmas Day celebration will take place starting at 6pm, featuring what the organizer calls a night of pure comedy, artistic expression, and family-friendly entertainment for people of all ages.

In advance of the event, Larry J mentioned that the show was intentionally created as a family-friendly comedy event, without any offensive or unsuitable material. He revealed that this year’s version will include a comedy contest, where new comedians will vie for a top prize of N1m.

The goal is to assist our art and provide opportunities for skilled comedians who are still seeking venues to showcase their talent. ‘It’s more than just humor; it’s an evening of wholesome laughter that families can enjoy without feeling uneasy or remorseful.’

He stated that comedians participating in the event will be reviewed based on ethical comedy principles, making sure that all jokes are appropriate for every age group. He mentioned that the show has always maintained this standard, with procedures in place to quickly handle any departure from its family-oriented approach.

The gathering will showcase acts by a list of famous comedians, such as Kenny Blaq, Forever, Damola, Judicious and Phronesis, plus more. Larry J mentioned that leading professionals in the field, including Ali Baba, are anticipated to be present at the event.

In addition to stand-up comedy, the Christmas event will feature a range of activities such as music by DJ Bayo, performances by kids, dance demonstrations, and unexpected acts designed to entertain the audience all night long.

Looking back at earlier versions, Larry J mentioned that the show has kept changing, bringing in fresh ideas every year. Earlier editions, he explained, included performances from individuals with disabilities and children from underprivileged communities, efforts aimed at motivating viewers and encouraging diversity.

This year, the comedian announced intentions to shine a light on children from Isale Eko engaged in artistic pursuits and developing abilities like artificial intelligence, offering them a stage for recognition and support.

“It’s about allowing them to be visible, valued, and aided,” he stated.
