The 17th iteration of the Best of Nollywood (BON) Awards, held in Lagos, shone brightly at the Wole Soyinka Arts Theatre (formerly the National Theatre) today, honoring the best in the industry and recognizing the year’s leading talents. Although the drama “Farmers Bride” took home the evening’s highest accolades, the film “Seven Doors” emerged as the biggest winner, securing four major technical awards.

The top film honors of the evening were awarded to Farmers Bride in the categories of Movie of the Year and Director of the Year. Nevertheless, Femi Adebayo’s technical achievement, Seven Doors, emerged as the most successful film of the night, securing four prestigious awards, such as Best Production Design, Best Special Effect, Best Series, and Best Cinematography. The film’s success underscores the increasing appreciation for outstanding production and technical quality within Nigerian cinema.

In addition to the top honors, the awards recognized various elements of movie production. The lead acting categories were dominated by the film Black Out, as Gideon Okeke and Padita Agu won the Best Actor and Best Actress trophies, respectively. For the supporting roles, experienced actress Mercy Aigbe was honored for her performance in My Mother Is a Witch, while Bucci Franklin received recognition for his role in The Waiter.

The captivating on-screen chemistry between Tobi Bakre and Folu Storms in Red Cycle led to them winning the Best Kiss award, which thrilled the viewers. Abanisete received the Best Indigenous award, emphasizing the significance of cultural narratives. The bright future of Nollywood was also showcased through victories for Razaaq Adoti (Most Promising Actor for Son of the Soil) and Una Idoko (Most Promising Actress for I Am Anis).

A standout moment of the night was the presentation of Special Recognition/Lifetime Achievement awards to an esteemed group: veteran filmmaker and actor Funke Akindele, respected journalist and former Commissioner Steve Ayorinde, and Dr. Shaibu Husseini, Director-General of the NFVCB. The honors were jointly given by Hon. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, Aare Abisoye Fagade, and Seun Oloketuyi.
