December 22, 2025 (EL OBEID) – The Sudanese military retook a key location in North Kordofan state after a fierce confrontation with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The conflict resumes after a pause in ground activities in North Kordofan since early November, when the RSF kept using drones to attack the road connecting Er Rahad and El Obeid, hindering trade.

Military sources informed Sudan Tribune that an army “mobile unit” was stationed southwest of Er Rahad and managed to regain control of the Alouba region. Pro-government channels shared video footage depicting soldiers in the town following the expulsion of the RSF.

Protecting Alouba is anticipated to improve safety in Er Rahad, located in eastern North Kordofan. This progress has a direct effect on the stability of trade and aid transportation along the national highway that links Tendelti, Um Rawaba, Er Rahad, and El Obeid—one of the region’s most critical routes.

Additionally, increasing control over Alouba hinders RSF attempts to infiltrate from the Kazgeil region located south of El Obeid. This enhances the security barriers surrounding the state capital and minimizes possible dangers to residential zones and supply routes.
