The Royal Thai Army maintains strong control over two villages near the border with Cambodia in Sa Kaeo province, while continuing to engage in gunfire and heavy artillery exchanges with Cambodian troops at a different site.
The First Army Region announced on Wednesday that troops had effectively protected Ban Khlong Phaeng in Ta Phraya district and Ban Nong Ya Kaeo in Khok Sung district following several days of fighting against Cambodian forces.
Thai and Cambodian forces remained engaged in combat at Ban Nong Chan, with Cambodia persisting in bolstering its military presence and positioning heavy weaponry in a bid to capture the village, according to the report.
The Sa Kaeo-based Burapha Task Force, the primary combat unit, confiscated four explosive kits and two landmines abandoned by Cambodian troops in Ban Khlong Phaeng.
Conflict between Thai and Cambodian troops has persisted for 17 days.
