On the 25th, local time, which coincided with Christmas Day, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that American troops had carried out air strikes on Islamic State (ISIS) militants in Nigeria.

Trump shared on his social media platform, Truth Social, “Tonight, under my command as Commander in Chief, the United States carried out a strong and lethal attack on ISIS Terrorist Scum in Northwest Nigeria, who have been attacking and brutally killing mainly innocent Christians.”

Trump added, “I have previously cautioned these Terrorists that if they didn’t cease the killing of Christians, there would be consequences, and tonight, there were,” and highlighted, “The Department of War carried out several precise strikes, something only the United States can accomplish.”

He further stated, “Under my leadership, our Country will not permit Radical Islamic Terrorism to thrive,” and continued, “May God bless our Military, and a Merry Christmas to everyone, including the deceased Terrorists, who will continue to increase if their killing of Christians persists.”

Nigeria has faced ongoing violent conflicts between Muslim herders and Christian farmers.

In this context, Trump previously cautioned a month ago that Christian killings were taking place in Nigeria and that military action might be employed to halt them.
