Two individuals lost their lives on Thursday when an Israeli drone targeted a van in the Hawsh al-Sayyed Ali neighborhood within the Bekaa region.

An Israeli drone attack targeted a vehicle in the southern town of Jannata during the night, resulting in one injury, according to Israel, which stated that it hit a Hezbollah fighter.

Israel continues to carry out frequent attacks in Lebanon, typically claiming they are aimed at Hezbollah, even though a ceasefire was established in November 2024 intended to halt over a year of conflict with the group, which it alleges is rebuilding its arms.

Faced with significant U.S. pressure and concerns over potential broader Israeli military actions, Lebanon has agreed to begin disarming Hezbollah, particularly in the southern region.

The Lebanese military intends to finish the operation in the area south of the Litani River — roughly 30 kilometers from the Israel border — by the end of the year.

On Friday, Lebanese and Israeli civilian representatives attended a session of the ceasefire monitoring committee for the second time, following their initial direct discussions in decades earlier this month.

President Joseph Aoun stated on Monday that the aim of the discussions was to “end the fighting, secure Israel’s retreat, free captives detained in Israel, and enable southern residents to return to their communities.”

Israel has also maintained military presence in five areas of southern Lebanon that it considers vital.

Over 340 individuals have lost their lives due to Israeli gunfire in Lebanon since the ceasefire, as per an AFP count based on reports from the Lebanese health ministry.
