December 25, 2025 (KARNOI) – On Thursday, the coalition forces supporting the Sudanese military reported that they successfully defended against an assault by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the areas of Um Baru and Karnoi within North Darfur state.

On Wednesday, RSF declared that they had taken control of the Abu Gamra and Um Baru regions as part of a larger effort to capture the remaining strongholds of army allies in the Darfur area.

On Thursday morning, RSF initiated an attack on the town of Karnoi, resulting in intense fighting with the combined forces.

Later, commanders from the RSF stated they had taken control of the town, yet members of the joint force refuted these claims, asserting that they had effectively stopped the assault and caused significant damage to the attacking forces.

A joint force spokesperson, Mutawakil Ali Wakeel, stated that the force is keeping an eye on “criminal escalation” by the RSF against unarmed people in North Darfur. He referred to the operation in Abu Gamra and nearby regions as a coordinated attempt to push people out of their homes and instill fear in those escaping El Fasher.

Wakeel stated that the RSF had set entire villages ablaze, stolen livestock, and committed serious abuses against civilians since the beginning of the offensive.

The representative stated that the combined unit, working alongside the military and the civilian uprising, participated in direct confrontations to prevent the assault.

The RSF launched another attack on the same regions early Thursday, according to the statement, yet the joint force countered the effort, compelling the aggressors to withdraw following casualties and damage to their resources.

The declaration mentioned that the combined forces continue to hold their positions in order to safeguard civilians and uphold Sudan’s independence and cohesion.
